6:05 Philadelphia @ Baltimore

Philadelphia will be heading to Baltimore tonight for a 3 game weekend series starting tonight with Joe Blanton on the mound for Philadelphia and Jake Arrieta on for Baltimore.

Philadelphia will be putting Joe Blanton on the mound tonight.  On the year he has a 4 – 6 record and an ERA of 5.27.  The problems arise in his last five starts.  Over 26 and 2/3 innings he has given up 25 runs.  In that span he has also given up 11 home runs so the long ball has been a problem for Blanton.  Now putting up Blanton against 9 hitters instead of the usual 8 hitters and a pitcher should prove to be more than can be handled by Blanton.

It is the same story for Jake Arrieta.  On the season he has a 2 – 7 record and a 5.53 ERA.  In his last five games he has only pitched 25 1/3 innings surrendering 22 runs.  He has had a few sparks of brilliance with three separate occasions giving up 1 or fewer runs in at least 7 innings of work.  All of the other appearances have been very inconsistent.  In fact five out of the last 7 appearances for Arrieta would cover tonight’s over.  The average amount of runs scored in his last 7 appearances is 11.33 runs.

Expect tonight’s game to be filled with a lot of thrills.  There should be a lot of scoring in this game and should easily cover the total.

Projected score: Philadelphia 7 – Baltimore 6

Pick: Good Play Philadelphia @ Baltimore OVER 9
